AIM

To develop a cognitive behavioural therapy approach which matches the learners’ level of competence, under appropriate supervision, in working with clients experiencing common mental health concerns.

 

CONTENT OF THE ONLINE COURSE

The course will include the following:

  • Evidence based knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of CBT

  • Screening and Assessment processes and procedures

  • Development of skills in the CBT therapeutic relationship

  • Development of Reflective Practice

  • Applications of CBT treatment to clients from diverse backgrounds and a range of common mental health issues including Depression and Anxiety Disorders

  • Measuring Effectiveness and Outcomes of treatment

  • Ethical and legal issues

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Certificate in CBT is a modular programme. It includes 4 modules (click here for a brief overview).

The programme provides 60 hours of home based study (and an additional 60 hours of self-directed practice).

In order to complete the Certificate course assignments have to be submitted within 12 months of purchase of Module 1 of the programme or at the first submission date after the 12 month period. Submission dates are anytime during the months of January, May and September.

 

Delivery of the programme will include:

  • Power-point presentations on key areas

  • Video discussions on Working with Depression, Working with Anxiety Disorders and other key topics

  • Reflective Practice exercises

  • Scientist Practitioner exercises

  • Video/audio recorded skills practice

  • Additional home study

Each module will include:

  • Module Aim and objectives

  • Key study tasks

  • Key skills tasks

  • Key coursework assessment tasks

  • Pay for Registration with the Paypal button below.

  • Employer Funded Places: If your employer has agreed to fund your place please provide details on the booking form regarding invoicing. Registration is confirmed on receipt of payment from the employer. Please note we can only accept full course payment for employer funded places rather than payment in installments.

  • Print out and complete the course booking form (located at the bottom of this page), scan the booking form and email this as an attachment to us.

  • In addition attach a photograph of yourself (head and shoulders in jpeg format).

  • Once you have registered and paid for new or additional modules we will process your registration and you will receive login details and/or access for course Moodle pages within 1-5 working days of receipt of your photograph and/or application.

  • In addition you will be emailed your allocated tutor contact details.

  • Please note once you have paid for registration you can pay for any of the modules at any time during the next 12 months.

  • You will have a maximum of 12 months to complete the coursework portfolio – and can choose to submit your coursework portfolio at any of the submission points during the 12 month period or at the first submission point after the 12 month period (you choose!).

Is your employer going to fund your place?

  • This facility is currently ONLY available to UK based employer organisations. Please email us here with your employers email address, the name of the contact person in your organisation the email needs to be addressed to, and any order number required on the invoice.

  • Please note access to modules will not commence until we have received payment from your employer - this can be arranged via BACS, Paypal or cheque.

  • Employer funded places will usually be invoiced for the full amount of the course (registration and modules 1-4) - please note modular payment over 12 months is not available for employer funded places.

the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).”

Each Learner, on successful completion of the course will receive a Certificate in CBT awarded by the Manchester Centre for CBT. The Centre has an Independent appointed Internal Courses Verifier and External Courses Examiner to ensure all courses maintain appropriate standards.

In order to fully benefit from this course students should have:

  • Experience of working with people in a helping or supportive role.

  • Opportunities to practice CBT skills in their paid or voluntary work during the course.

  • A basic knowledge of CBT skills and an understanding of the nature of, and role of, empathy, congruence & acceptance in building sound working relationships with clients.

  • 2-3 hours per week set aside for private study.

All students will receive a Course Handbook on commencement of the course, along with online access to a study platform with downloadable papers, materials for working with clients, practice materials, power-point presentations, videos  and other support material etc.

 

Tutors:

Keith Chadwick

Keith Chadwick is a CBT therapist, Supervisor and Trainer with over twenty years experience of working with a wide range of customers including NHS, Local Authorities, Public and Voluntary sectors. Keith is MBACP Senior Accredited Supervisor and CBT Psychotherapist, UKRCP and was an Honorary Faculty/Research Fellow at Manchester University (2001-2009), an External Examiner at University of East Anglia (2004-2007) and currently a Social Work Practice Educator, Manchester Metropolitan University. He is the author of several publications including `Creating Confidence at Work’ (Audio Book 2009).

 

 

Dr Styliani Gkika

Dr Styliani Gkika is accredited by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) since 2007, and a graduate member of the British Psychological Association (BPS). Dr Gkika has experience in face-to-face and phone cognitive psychotherapy with people suffering from anxiety disorders (such as, generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and social anxiety disorder) and depression. Furthermore, I have experience in working with problems of low self-esteem. Additionally, since October 2009, she teaches and supervises trainees at a postgraduate course in cognitive-behavioural therapy at the University of Bolton.
